...abide in the Lord...

When we pray each day, keeping our gaze on the Lord, it is good to have a solemn word or prayer to rely on, to fall back upon, to help you keep your gaze on the Lord. I use the Name of Jesus as my anchor in quiet meditations on the Lord, so that when I get distracted I simply say — in my mind — Je-sus…Je-sus…being mindful of my breathing and the Name of Je-sus…speaking in my mind JE as I breathe in, and SUS as I breathe out. You can create your own short prayer or any single word to draw your attention back to the Lord. My God, I Am Completely Yours! Or, I Love You, God. Or, Lord, I Give You My Heart. Or, I Love You. Or, God! Consider this as your prompt to return your focus onto the Lord. Take a gentle step back to the Lord in silence whenever the world, in your mind, pulls you away! Fix your gaze of Jesus only!

Remember what we have discussed in previous blogs: To Abide in the Lord literally means to Pitch Your Tent In The Lord. The verb, To Abide, in Hebrew literally means: To Pitch Your Tent. When we stop and sit in silent meditation, let your heart not be distracted, but return to the Lord so that your heart may look upon the Lord once again. Pitch the Tent of your Heart in the Lord.

But go easy on yourself in this regard. It takes time to learn to be still and know that God is present. What matters is that you not give up. Don’t measurer progress. Just continue to let your heart come back to the Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”

Psalm 34:18.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” Romans 12:2.

“Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints”

Ephesians 1:18.

“So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. As you come to him, a living stone rejected by women and men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” 1 Peter 2:1-25.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding”

Proverbs 3:5.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man and women according to their ways, according to the fruit of their deeds” Jeremiah 17:9-10.
