...all for the sake of the Lord...

Brother Lawrence has a beautiful and helpful way of encouraging each of us to be holy. To be holy is not a matter of changing what we are doing, but rather holiness is about doing everything for the sake of God when we would normally do it for our own benefit or good. Be careful not to think of holiness in terms of changing a means to an end. Don’t aim for holiness by trying to change your behavior, because such an approach often leads to an addiction to changing what you are doing or to changing how you do certain works in order to become holy! Instead go to God and do everything for love of God, for the sake of God, rather than to please ourselves or others. Pray that all your thoughts and every decision and choice you make is purely for the love of God.

So desire to be holy in the presence of God by doing the next thing purely for the love of God. And then the next thing you think of or do, think and do everything in terms of love of God.

Lord, may all my days and hours be for Your sake!

May every thought be directed to my love for You!

Today, Lord, let my day be for You and You alone!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner!

From the Bible:

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ” Colossians 3:23-24.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” Matthew 5:16.

“I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving”

Psalm 69:30.

“Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise woman or man boast in their wisdom, let not the mighty woman or man boast in their might, let not the rich woman or man boast in their riches, but let all who boast do so in this, that they understand and know Me, for I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord” Jeremiah 9:23-24.

“Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord’” Luke 1:46.

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words”

Romans 8:26.
