...be blessed...

1 Now when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and proclaim his message in their cities. When John the Baptizer heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with a skin disease are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at Me’” Matthew 11:1-6.

I am touched by the closing beatitude: blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me. This declaration is pronounced of the person who is not scandalized by Jesus. John is thereby encouraged by Jesus to keep the faith, to see in the ministry of Jesus the “works of the Messiah” (11:2).

Bring to prayer today this amazing beatitude from the lips and the heart of Jesus: Blessed is anyone who takes no offense at Me.

Live it!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“Jesus said:

‘Blessed are the poor in spirit,    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,    for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,    for they will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,    for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful,    for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart,    for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,    for they will be called children of God.

10

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you’” Matthew 5:1-12.
