...be still...

63 But Jesus was silent” Matthew 26:63.

This simple, stark observation of Jesus occurred in the final hours of Jesus’ life. Jesus was put on trial by Caiaphas, the High Priest, and Jesus was silent. In fact Jesus said very little before He died on the Cross. He wanted His actions at this point in His life to speak louder than His Words. In fact, His Words were largely ignored by everyone for the last three years of His life. So were His miracles and signs.

Often God is silent when we come to Him in prayer because we too have largely ignored His Words in our life.

Pray today that you will remain in His Word, the Scriptures, and do whatever Jesus tells you to do. And learn to come before Him each day in silence. Just being in God’s presence is enough. We don’t have to flood Him with our words because He already knows what we wish to say to Him. After all, He gave us His grace to turn to Him in prayer.

So I implore you today to take some silent time in the presence of Jesus.

Jesus was silent in His Father’s presence as He was being led to the Cross.

“May Your will be done” was what Jesus sought in His final hours. The will of His father in heaven.

Make that your prayer today.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” Matthew 6:6.

“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God” Romans 8:26-27.

“For nothing will be impossible with God” Luke 1:37.

"Be still and know that I am God" Psalm 46:10.
