One of the things about praying and meditating on the Presence of God each day are the distractions that originate in our thoughts. Wandering thoughts flood our minds when we want to pray, and if you are like me, there is the natural tendency to spend time rejecting them. But what I find is that my intent, my desire is so important. It is unwise, and most fruitless, to focus on pealing away the distractions instead of desiring union with God by love. Prayer is always an exercise in love of God, just as living daily life is an exercise in doing everything, making every choose, for the sake of God. God I Love You is the focus of prayer, as are all of daily decisions based in this as well: God I Love You. To do all for the love of God is what we wish to do and not what we wish to merely understand. What you and I understand about prayer and living the Christian life has little benefit regarding the pursuit of understanding prayer and understanding the Christian life, and far more to do with our heart’s desire. What we wish to do is what matters, not what we wish to understand. Our only desire is to love God and to be always in His Presence.
We must do all we can to love God and to expect the forgiveness of our sins from the blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross. This relieves us from living our life with fears, fears that we may not be fully forgiven. In everything we do we do out of love for God and the joy that comes from His Presence. So it must be our great desire not to sin against God, for no other pain or sorrow will bring us more grief than offending God who loves us. We must lean on the grace of God who alone gives us the strength to realize that, when left to ourselves, we fall flat on our face and deep into sin.
