...complete and total...

At the center of our spiritual life is our trust in God. And yet our trust in God must not be just a partial trust in Him but a whole trust in Him! God is calling us all to a complete surrender of our life to Him! It cannot be partial, and so our daily prayer and life must be a desire for a complete trust in God in every thought and in every choice we make in our life. To trust God completely is to know for certain that God loves us and will never deceive us. To trust God completely is to believe completely in Jesus Christ, to have complete faith in Almighty God.

There is a story in Mark’s Gospel that has always touched my heart deeply. It is a story about total trust, total faith, total belief in Jesus Christ! It is the story of a father of a boy who was possessed by an evil spirit that made him fall on the ground and foam at the mouth, resisting all efforts to heal him and free him of this spirit. But Jesus heals him, and in doing so teaches us about complete faith and trust in God! So take some time today, please, to consider these words from the story: The father spoke these words to Jesus: “22 This spirit has often cast my son into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if You, Jesus, are able to do anything, help us! Have compassion on us!” 23 Jesus said to him, “If you are able! All things can be done for the one who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out, “I believe; help my unbelief’” Mark 9:22-24.

That phrase, “I believe; help my unbelief!”, has always spoken to my heart, and I hope it speaks today to your heart too! Let us pray for one another that we will trust God completely! Pray that we will believe in God completely. That we will have complete faith in Him! And pray that when we stumble, when we sin, we may run back to God praying for His mercy, and place our total trust, our complete faith, in Him once again.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
