...deliver us from evil...

Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent

“13 Sing to the Lord; praise the Lord! For he has delivered the life of the needy from the hands of evildoers” Jeremiah 20:13.

I have always loved this verse advising us to sing praises to the Lord who delivers us from evil. This entire season of Lent, which leads up to this coming week of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday,Good Friday, and Easter Sunday speaks loudly to us all about the Lord who delivers us from evil, which is the same sentiment Jesus taught us to pray in the Lord’s Prayer: “…lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, Amen!”

Today, take time in your prayer to think deeply on these words in the Lord’s Prayer. If anything speaks to us about Good Friday and Easter Sunday, it is the fact that Jesus, through His life, death, and resurrection is delivering us from evil. So take time to thank Jesus. Pray for you to be delivered from sin and evil, and pray for this to happen around our world.

We are struggling with two gruesome wars in our world today, so pray for an end to the evil wars that surround us and our neighbors. Pray for others who are struggling with evil. Pray that God will deliver them from all evil! And pray this prayer for yourself!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
