...do what He says...

29 As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 There were two blind men sitting by the roadside. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they shouted, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” 31 The crowd sternly ordered them to be quiet, but they shouted even more loudly, “Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David!” 32 Jesus stood still and called them, saying, “What do you want me to do for you?” 33 They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” 34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they regained their sight and followed Him” Matthew 20:29-34.

I know I have said this before, but it’s still worth saying again. The healing miracles or signs of Jesus, while so reflective of the love of Jesus towards the sick and informed, are the biggest part of the miracle in the story. The physical miracles point to something else that Jesus is very much more interested in. Jesus wants the physical miracle to call the healed individual to follow Christ! He wants the healing to change the heart and soul of the person who was healed.

So the most important words in the healing story above are the final two words: Follow Him! The two blind men’s healing was not that they regained their visual sight, but that they “followed Him” — they followed Jesus Christ. That’s why Jesus came to earth and lived, died, and was risen from the dead. He came to call you and me and everyone to follow Him!

That’s the reason why you and I were given life.

So “do whatever Jesus tells you to do” John 2:5. Follow Christ!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps” 1 Peter 2:21.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” John 8:12.

“On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to me and to you? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever He tells you” John 2:1-5.
