All my life I have been most attracted tonJohn the Baptizer because he sought to give all the attention and credit to God. John sought to live as humbly as possible, as the servant of Jesus. Consider these words of the Baptizer in John’s Gospel. Bring to prayer one of these texts and ask god for His grace too emulate the Baptizer:
“There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 9 The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world” John 1:6-9.
“John testified to him and cried out, ‘This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me’” John 1:15.
“John confessed, ‘I am not the Messiah…I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness,‘Make straight the way of the Lord’” John 1:20, 23.
“25 They asked him, “Why, then, are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, 27 the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandal.” 28 This took place in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing” John 1:25-28.
“John again was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and as he watched Jesus walk by he exclaimed, ‘Look, here is the Lamb of God!’” John 1:35-36.
“John declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel” John 1:29-31.
“28 You yourselves are my witnesses that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah, but I have been sent ahead of him.’ 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom who stands and hears him rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. For this reason my joy has been fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease” John 3:28-30.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God have mercy on me a sinner.
