Religion can sometimes muddy up the waters. Jesus spoke of this when He criticized religious people who followed church rules while their hearts were far from Him.
Jesus said, 6 “This people honors Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; 7 in vain do they worship Me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.’ 8 You abandon
the commandment of God and hold to human tradition
Mark 7:6-8.”
For me personally, this is why daily prayer is so important, because it keeps me focused on the Lord and on His Word. It humbles me and calls me always to follow Christ! More and more, over the years, I have tried to keep these words of Jesus in my heart: “9 Then Jesus said to them, ‘You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition’” Mark 7:9.
Pray today that you will follow the commandments of God and be very discerning about the traditions of your religion. Stay in the Word of God and stay in daily prayer.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
From the Bible:
“Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps” 1 Peter 2:21.
“Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” John 8:12.
“Jesus answered them, ‘And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition’” Matthew 15:3?
“Jesus said, ‘For the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God’”
Matthew 15:6.
