Our word for God’s dramatic breaking beyond our ironclad rules and habits and sin is grace. Grace is God’s magnificent release from our self-made prisons of helpless sin and continuous breaking of our promises to do better next time. Grace is God giving us what we need, not what we deserve. Grace is the secret key wherein God offers to be the Divine Locksmith for every life and for all of history — even if it costs Him His life! The grace of God, who is Jesus Christ Himself, is necessary for all of us to live and survive and thrive in life. In fact there is no life without God’s grace, for we end up cascading into the pit of sinful smallness, hurt, and blame.
Grace humiliates our attempts at private virtue. Grace empties us of ourself so that we no longer pursue doing this so that we could earn that!
Grace laughs at our promises to do better next time.
Who wants grace? Only those who sin.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God have mercy on me a sinner. Please give me what I need, not what I deserve. In Your name I pray, Amen.
