...humility...

He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me” Matthew 18:2-5.

It is clear that what Jesus holds dear to His heart for you and me is that we be humble people. Humility is one of the strongest traits of a follower of Christ. In no way is humility for weak individuals, but in fact is just the opposite. Humility means that you and I depend on God, follow God, and defer to Him for everything. Being a humble person means that we are strong believers in Jesus Christ, in who He is and in everything He says and does. We speak on His behalf and give Him credit for everything that is good. The humble person is so focused on God that she or he is never interested in taking ownership for what God alone accomplished. The humble person wants God to increase and we to decrease.

So pray for humility. Pray that you will be a humble person in the presence of God and others. Stay in His Word, pray daily, and listen to the Lord speak to you.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
