...hypocrites...

Chapter 23 of Matthew is filled with with the so-called “Woe” sayings of Jesus. I see them as “Woe Proverbs” and one of my favorites is this one: 25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence” Matthew 23:25.

Now we’re all hypocrites at times in life. My church is full of them! SO it your church! Wherever you work there are hypocrites. They even live with you at home sometimes. I see one every morning when I look in the mirror to shave!

A hypocrite is someone who says one thing and does another thing.

A hypocrite puts on an exterior show or act, while inside they are a wicked sinner. Indeed, they “clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.”

So take time in prayer today and be honest with God and ask for His mercy for the times you have been a hypocrite. And then ask Him for His sufficient grace to change.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which on the outside look beautiful but inside are full of the bones of the dead and of all kinds of uncleanness. 28 So you also on the outside look righteous to others, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness” Matthew 23:27-28.
