...it is the Lord...

16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were terrified. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they wanted to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the land toward which they were going” John 6: 16-21.

Today I invite you to consider the brief, but powerful, words of Jesus: “It is I; do not be afraid.” If we’re honest, have we not all been afraid of Jesus, afraid of God? The Psalmist speaks for all of us in Psalm 51: “My sin is ever before me” Psalm 51:3. Our sin alone is cause for all of us to be afraid of Jesus. When we die will God forgive me?

“It is I; do not be afraid,” are the words of Jesus’ invitation, 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” Matthew 11:28-30. Don’t be afraid of Me, instead repent, confess your sins, and return to Me, because “If we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”

1 John 1:9.

Pray, today, that you will never be afraid of Jesus, and instead return to Him in confidence, knowing His great love for you. So take time today and read and pray these words from the Prophet Jeremiah:

19

Therefore thus says the Lord: If you turn back, I will take you back, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious and not what is worthless, you shall serve as my mouth. It is they who will turn to you, not you who will turn to them.

20

And I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail over you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you, says the Lord.

21

I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless” Jeremiah 15:19-21.
