23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, “Then who can be saved?” 26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible” Matthew 19:23-26.
The disciples are frightened by Jesus’ teaching that living life with a lot of money and stuff makes it difficult to enter the Kingdom of God. So they ask an incredible question of Jesus; “Then who can be saved?” Jesus responds with an observation that we human beings pretty much ignore. Jesus says that “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”
You see, we think we have to do just enough to earn our way into heaven.
So as we age and get closer to our death we worry if we’ve done enough.
Jesus says here that we can never do enough to enter the Kingdom of God.
We cannot climb the ladder high enough to make it into heaven.
Only God can do this for us. And He did through Jesus Christ who lived, died, and rose from the dead — FOR US!
Now what we do certainly matters. It matters to us and to God. We have to do all that God tells us to do in the Bible, and when we fail, when we sin, we need to repent and ask for forgiveness.
So pray that you will live a faithful life. That matters. Ask God for forgiveness. That matters. Love God and others, and forgive everyone, put your hope only in Jesus Christ, and have great faith in your life. That matters! Pray and stay in the Scriptures. That matters! Trust that what Jesus did on the Cross and in the empty tomb matter more than any other thing!
That matters!
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast”
Ephesians 2:8-9.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9.
