I speak often, as you know, of our daily time in prayer and in quiet, silent meditation on the Presence of God, and rightly so. But I am also aware that this daily turning to the Lord is continued through the day, for my awareness of the loving Presence of God grows and continues along with this commitment each day to turn to the Lord. In many ways my daily time with the Lord at the beginning of each day is the door opening to spend the rest of the day with Him. I think often of what Jesus said in Matthew’s Gospel: “7 Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened” Matthew 7:7-8. So my daily prayer and silent meditation in the Presence of God is the door opening, it is God giving me what I am asking for, my finding what I am searching for — and for the entire day! It is not just something I am trying to do at the beginning of the day. It is God drawing me, calling me, pulling me into His heart as the only way to live my daily life. Turning to God is indeed God, the Hound of Heaven, taking my hand and pulling me into His heart. So I am aware that it is not something I am doing, but it is what the Lord is doing. I have the freedom to walk away, to put it off, and to let go of God. But the power to come to Him is all the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the blessed unity and presence of the Holy Spirit.
Keep praying.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
From the Bible:
“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’” John 7:38.
“But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man” Luke 21:36.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” Matthew 6:10.
“I can do nothing on my own” John 5:30.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money” Matthew 6:22-24.
