In the spiritual life there is arguably nothing more important than to recognize the grace of God in our daily prayer and meditation, indeed, in our entire lives. The grace of God is God freely choosing to give us what we need the most, not what we deserve. The thief on the cross who asked Jesus to “remember me when you come into Your kingdom” Luke 24:42, Jesus responded to with a beautiful example of the grace of God: “Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise” Luke 24:43. Jesus speaks to those who are grumbling about who He is, saying, “Stop grumbling…for no one can come to me unless the Father who who sent me draws you…” John 6:43-44. God the Father drawing us to Himself is completely the grace of God.
So when you pray, ask God to fill You with His grace. Ask God for the strength, the grace, to respond to His grace. trust me, I know from experience, that on my own I can do nothing but fall flat on my face and walk away from the Lord. But with the grace of God, with Jesus, all things are possible. Jesus looks at us and says to each of us, “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26.
Remember this truth. Bring your heart to prayer and to the World of God with humility, with trust in God, and with your graced desire for His sufficient grace. Give thanks to the apostles Paul to whom Jesus spoke these words: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness” 2 Corinthians 12:9. Pray that you will respond as Paul responded: “So I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me” 2 Corinthians 12:9.
Lord Jesus Christ Son of the Living God have mercy on me a sinner.
From the Bible:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” Ephesians 2:8-9.
“But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace” Romans 11:6.
“For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace” John 1:16.
