Sometimes in my life I have been bothered, even angered, by events and things that occur in my life. I am sure this is true of all of us, to one degree or another. I have found that whenever I remember to ask the Lord how I can handle this challenge in a way that honors Him, the situation changes immediately. I find that the more faithful I am to daily prayer and quiet meditation in His Presence, all aspects of my life are changed immediately.
And what changes is a conversation in my heart that pulls me to ask: Lord, how can I handle this situation for love of You? How can I do the little things for love of You, Lord? Brother Lawrence considers this his “obligation to love God in all things.”
When I do everything for the love of God I am a different person. When I do everything for me, then I am “keeping score” of what I am doing and what others are not. Desiring to live my life only by the light of faith in God is my greatest desire. Without any doubt, this is possible only with daily prayer and quiet meditation in the Presence of God. Indeed, daily prayer and quiet meditation in the Presence of God chases away useless thoughts that spoil everything. I want to train my mind to reject such thoughts as soon as they surface and run back to the Lord for communion with Him.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
From the Bible:
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever”
1 John 2:15-17.
“Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” Ephesians 5:2.
“Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come, and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water” Revelation 14:7.
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8:38-39.
“And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love others”
1 John 4:21.
