“5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; 7 but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” 1 John 1:5-7.
Here the author of this letter hits the ball out of the park for me when he differentiates light from dark in describing our life. For me, it has been that clear. “God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all” (Verse 5). I am either with God or against God. If I walk in darkness, when I sin, in other words, I freely leave the light and enter into the world of darkness, the world of sin. And if I try to talk myself into thinking that this is ok, I lie and I am choosing to live a false and untrue life. I know this to be true because I have done this a thousand times in my life.
But when I walk in the Light I take absolutely no credit for this, but instead give God my humble thanks. I repent of choosing the darkness. I beg for forgiveness. And when the door open for me to enter once again into the Light, it is only by the grace of God. I love the Light because I love Jesus Christ and I love being with others who also are in the Light. And I totally agree with John who writes that on the Cross Jesus cleansed me of the darkness that consumed me, the sin that began to kill me again.
Pray today, dear friends, that you may live this day in the Light.
If you are in the dark, repent and beg for forgiveness. Come back to Jesus through His grace on the Cross.
Oh Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
