...obey Him...

Thursday of the Third Week of Lent

“21 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘This command I give them, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.' 21 For in the day that I brought your ancestors out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to them or command them concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. 23 But this command I gave them, “Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.”24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but, in the stubbornness of their evil will, they walked in their own counsels and looked backward rather than forward. 25 From the day that your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day, 26 yet they did not listen to me or pay attention, but they stiffened their necks. They did worse than their ancestors did’” Jeremiah 7:23-28.

This is a most beautiful and instructive Lent text from the Prophet Jeremiah. Take time and consider what God is saying to you. He is commanding you, not offering you an option, but commanding you to obey His voice. This presumes you are taking time each day in prayer and in the Scriptures listening to the voice of God. So sit quietly in the presence of the Lord, read His Word and be silent. He will touch your heart with His Word. He desires to be your God and for you do be His people. This is the gift He promises you if you obey Him. What a gift!

He wants you to walk with Him, no one else. Again, He wants you to obey Him by following Him. Do this “so that it may be well with you.” Walk with Him, follow Him, obey Him, do what He tells you to do, trust Him! Then God reminds us that this is exactly what He commanded of Israel as they traveled across the desert. Bu like us, they did no obey His Word. They didn’t listen to him. What they desired was evil and stubborn, for they walked down their own paths, not the path laid out by God. Dear friends, they sinned, just like you and I do.

So day in a day out God send people into our lives to bring us back to Him.

Do alkyl you can today to listen to Him and follow Him. Make this your daily desire, every day. Make this your daily prayer: Help me, Lord, to obey You and follow You.

Dear friends, this is an amazing text from the Scriptures. Let us pray for one another that we will obey God, walk in His ways, and follow Him all the days of our lives.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
