...Our Father in heaven...

36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be grieved and agitated. 38 Then he said to them, ‘My soul is deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay awake with me.’ 39 And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not what I want but what you want’”

Matthew 26:36-39.

Jesus’ example of praying is key. And so are His words to all of us are so instructive: “Remain with Me and stay awake!” In other words, don’t give up on praying. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that prayer is not important, and don’t ever talk yourself out of prayer. Just the opposite! Do what Jesus tells you to do: “Stay with me in prayer. Keep alert to My presence. Follow me each day in prayer. Come to Me in prayer especially when your soul is deeply grieved!”

Remember to whom Jesus went when He prayed: “My Father…!”

Remember, too, that this is how He taught us to pray. God the Father in heaven isn’t just His Father in heaven. No, GOD IS OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN! God is everyone’s Father! Everyone can go to God in prayer, especially when our souls are deeply grieved. God is your Father and my Father! He is personal — for everyone on earth! And remember, God as our Father is unlike any of our Father’s here on earth!

And look, the way Jesus prayed that night is exactly the way Jesus taught us to pray in The Lord’s Prayer: “May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not what I want but what you want” (Verse 39)!

So today take time with The Lord’s Prayer, and pray it from your soul.

Trust Him!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy win me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” Matthew 6:6.

“In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you” John 16:23.

“Give thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” Ephesians 5:20.

“Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name’” Matthew 6:9.
