A Lamp under a Bushel Basket

21 Jesus said to His disciples, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under the bushel basket or under the bed and not on the lampstand? 22 For there is nothing hidden, except to be disclosed; nor is anything secret, except to come to light. 23 If you have ears to hear, then hear!” 24 And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and it will be added to you. 25 For to those who have, more will be given, and from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away”

Mark 4:21-25.

I know I have said this before, but I am going to say it again because it is such an important universal truth about Jesus Christ in our lives. Whenever God blesses, whenever God pours out His grace on you, whenever God speaks to you and helps you move forward, whenever God forgives you — everything that God gives to you in your life come to you on its way to others. The blessings of God in your life are meant to be shared with others. We are meant to give away and share with others all the blessings of God in our life. In other words, there are no brakes on God’s grace. They are never meant for ourselves alone.

This is why the light from a lamp is ours alone, to be hidden under a bushel basket, or hidden under the bed. No, the light of Christ in our life is to be placed on a lamp stand — for all to see!

So today, in prayer, ask God to show you how you can share, how you can give away to others, a grace that God has blessed you with! And then do it!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner!

From the Bible:

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” Matthew 5:16.

“And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them” Luke 6:31.

“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus…” Philippians 2:1-30.

“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered” Proverbs 11:25.
