...praying and teaching...

21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. 22 They were astounded at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. 23 Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, 24 and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” 25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. 27 They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28 At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee” Mark 1:21-28.

Here we see in the very beginning of Mark’s Gospel that Jesus is identified as One who teaches and heals and forgives with authority. This reminds me of The Lord’s prayer where Jesus instructs us in our daily [prayer to pray that God, our Father in heaven, would lead us away from our temptations and deliver us from our sinful life. In this story above we see Jesus doing just that - delivering from temptations and sins. Clearly Jesus One possessing astounding spiritual power, an authority that derives from the Spirit of God, who came upon Him at his baptism! Here we see Jesus do something significant: He couples His mighty teaching with His mighty deeds. We are the the Scribes who make only theological pronouncements, while Jesus comes with the authority of God to dismantle the tyranny of Satan.

So today I am feeling called by God in my daily prayer to come before Him as a beggar. Please, dear Lord, dismantle Satan, and all his empty promises, from my life. Let Your Word, that I listen to and think deeply about, lead You to pull the temptations of Satan from my heart. May You do a mighty act in my life, couple with Your mighty Word, Your mighty Sermons in the Scriptures.

Join, dear friend, and bring this to your pray this day.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone” Matthew 14:23.

“When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed’” John 17:1-26.

“For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak” John 12:49.

“Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth’” Matthew 5:1-48.

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” Mark 10:45.
