Brother Lawrence writes some of the simplest and most powerful truths in life, and many of these revolve around our spiritual life and relationship with God. One such truth he repeats time and again is this: It is essential in our life to renounce everything that does not lead us to God so that we can become accustomed to constant prayer and quiet meditation on the loving Presence of God.
So today I simply invite you to join me in doing just that! Take a moment now to ask God to help you, by His loving grace, to renounce everything in your life that is pulling you away from following Christ! And then take a moment to ask the Lord for His loving grace to bring you to pray every day, to come daily into quiet time in His Presence, and to follow Him all the remaining days and hours of your life.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
From the Bible:
“But he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God”
Revelation 22:9.
“How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard” Hebrews 2:3.
“Renounce disgraceful, underhanded ways. Refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's Word, but by the open statement of the truth commend yourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God” 2 Corinthians 4:2.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life” John 5:24.
“Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” James 5:16.
“And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases” Luke 9:1.
