Peter’s Denial Foretold
“31 Then Jesus said to them, ‘You will all fall away because of me this night, for it is written,
‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 But after I am raised up, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.’ 33 Peter said to him, ‘Even if all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.’ 34 Jesus said to him, ‘Truly I tell you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.’ 35 Peter said to him, ‘Even though I must die with you, I will not deny you.’ And so said all the disciples”
Matthew 26:31-35.
How many times in our life have we told God, indeed, promised God, “I will never fall away?” I have done it all my life, only to fall away from God, flat on my face.
Join me in prayer:
Lord, I am so very sorry for having sinned against You,
especially because I have have sinned again,
after promising you that I will not sin again.
You, of all people, deserve my love and my unfailing faithfulness.
So once again, I pray for Your mercy and love to forgive me,
and to give me the grace to live faithfully
and to follow You for all the remaining days and hours
of life. I pray that You will fill my heart
with the most abundant grace of your Holy Spirit.
Through Jesu Christ, Our Lord, I pray. Amen.
