In Luke 8 Jesus begins His famous and beloved Parable of the Seeds with these words: “5 A sower went out to sow his seed” Luke 8:5. This simple, seemingly innocuous phrase, got me thinking. Each day that I live, what do I sow, especially when no one else is looking, or when I am alone? What kind of seed does Jesus see me sowing?
Today, I invite you to ask yourself that question. Am I sowing seeds of love and kindness, seeds of faithful living to Jesu Christ? When I simply observe and say nothing or do nothing, what kind of seeds am I sowing? What does patience have to do with what I sow? Do I sow all that Christ has given to me? What do I keep to myself — for myself? Are my seeds full of gossip and personal opinions? Is Social Media and the internet keeping me from sowing seeds?
A simple question, but a powerful question. Take this question to prayer and beg the Lord to grace you with sowing seeds of his Word. Pray that you become a faithful sower of the seed He wishes you to so, publicly and privately.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
From the Bible:
“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully” 2 Corinthians 9:6.
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap” Galatians 6:7.
“For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life” Galatians 6:8.
“And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The Lord blessed him” Genesis 26:12.
“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered” Proverbs 11:24-25.
