“24 This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. 25 But there are also many other things that Jesus did; if every one of them were written down, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written” John 21: 24-25.
Well, dear friends, these final two (2) verses end our journey through John’s Gospel with most assuring words that John, the beloved disciple, was indeed the author of this Gospel, and no one else. John is the singular witness who personally testifies to all that is contained in his Gospel. Just a handful of individuals ever had such a close and intimate friendship with Jesus as John. And while a scribe most likely had a hand in the final two (2) chapters, we can rely on all that is contained in this Gospel. So we say goodby with a cautionary note: no Gospel can contain all of Jesus, including this most profound Gospel of John.
Take time and write down some of the most important things you heard God say to you in your study of John, and then pray in gratitude to God: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.
From the Bible:
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6.
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” 1 Timothy 2:5.
“This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:11-12.
“But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed”
Isaiah 53:5.
