...the next life...

See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God, and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And all who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He is pure” 1 John 3:1-3.

I recently turned 70 years of age, and like the recent years, I think more and more of my own death. Like everyone else, I have no idea what to expect, and so these three verses gift me a glimpse into the fact that I have no idea.

Here we are identified as “children of God.” Now the world may not recognize us as such, but here we see clearly that we are children of God. And yet what we will be when we die remains a mystery because that has not yet been revealed to us. But we do know, according to the verses, is that “2 when He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And all who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He is pure.”

Death is still the great mystery. My hope is in Christ, and if I am every to place my hope in anyone or anything, I am at peace placing it in Jesus Christ.

Let us continue to pray for one another every day.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going…” John 14:1-31.
