...whatever He says...

1He left that place and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. On the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offense at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honor, except in their hometown and among their own kin and in their own house.’ And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief” Mark 6:1-6.

Our text says that “Jesus was amazed at their unbelief.” Another translation says that “Their unbelief dumfounded Him.” I don’t know now about you, but some of the things I have done in my life astound me! But it is amazing to me that Jesus is amazed, even dumfounded, by some of the things I have done in my life. It’s no wonder we completely rely on the grace of God.

Yesterday in Matthew 16:23 I recently did some praying and reflecting on these words of Jesus: “Set your mind on divine things, not on human things.” I see a pattern in what Jesus is saying to me. “Paul, don’t leave me dumfounded by what you do. Instead, set your mind on the things of God, the things I wish you to focus on.”

Friends, stay in God’s Word and do whatever Jesus tells you to do.

Make that your prayer today!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for others, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ” Colossians 3:23-24.

“Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” Colossians 3:17.

Jesus said: “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” Matthew 25:40.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name” Psalm 103:1!
