...where the center is...

The center of our soul is God.  The center of who we are is God.  The center of every culture is God.   And we all experience storms and perplexities, failures and suffering.   That is the experience of life we all share in.   And so to leave behind these burdens of life we have to go to the center of our souls, we have to go to God.   That is the purpose of prayer — to be present to God.  We have to step away from our emotional and psychological awareness of the turmoils and suffering, and embrace the spiritual level of our life, a level of intuition and our capacity for God.

We were created for God and we have to live in the presence of God.

Our character and our personality and our desires were created for the Lord.   So we have to step away from our preoccupations and habits in order to see clearly life at the center where God is.   If we wish to know how true life really is, we must go to the center where God is.  So whenever we move to the center where God is we find the true self as the image of God, just as God promised when He created us: “God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness”  Genesis 1:26.

So this is why prayer is so important, because in prayer we move toward the center who is God.  Where God is, is also where everything else is.  This is faith in God.   And when we move toward God we realize that it is God who is welcoming and drawing us to Himself, to his heart.   In prayer we do not come to Him on our own, instead He empowers us, draws us, calls us, and graces us with his presence.  This welcome is love, the love of God, for the greatest gift God ever gives is the gift of Himself.

So pray.   Today.  Now.   Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” Matthew 6:33.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”  Matthew 6:19-21.

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money”

Matthew 6:24.

“He must increase, but I must decrease”  John 3:30.

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding” Proverbs 3: 1-35.
