...who Jesus is...

Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling bright, such as no one on earth could brighten them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us set up three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.

As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead could mean. 11 Then they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” 12 He said to them, “Elijah is indeed coming first to restore all things. How then is it written about the Son of Man, that he is to go through many sufferings and be treated with contempt? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written about him” Mark 9:2-13.

When I lived in Africa and helped run a Government medical dispensary at my compound, I remember when one of the rural medical aides showed me the malaria parasite under the clinic’s battery powered microscope. The parasite looked like little bugs running around in disarray. But it gave me a different view of malaria than I ever imagined. I think the perspective of who Jesus truly is became quite different for Peter, James, and John when Jesus was transfigured in their presence on the top of Mount Hermon. I can only imagine this, but I think here Jesus is showing the three disciples that He is indulging in fantasies about the Kingdom of God. No! Jesus is doing and speaking the truth. He is not just the true prophet, Jesus is the true Messiah!

I have always known that the bible is not always literally true, but everything in the bible is absolutely true. Most importantly, everything in the bible written about Jesus Christ assures us of this truth: JESUS IS WHO HE SAYS HE IS!

Where does this lead you and me? Listen to Jesus, because He is God’s Beloved Son!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have a mercy on me a sinner.

From the Bible:

  • Jesus said He came down from heaven John 6:38-39.

  • Jesus is more than just a good man Mark 10:17-18.

  • Jesus performs miracles John 10:36-39.

  • Jesus said I AM SINLESS John 8:46.

  • Jesus said that He is God John 10:30-33.

  • Jesus forgives sin Mark 2:5-7.

  • Jesus says He is the ONLY way to heaven John 14:6.
